I’m trading books with a fellow blogger. I’m spending her three and she’s sending me two. Do I count one as a give-away copy? Do I add points to my score or take any off? I was thinking since I stay with almost the same amount of books to just add the -2 pts for the last book while counting the first two as gifts. Any thoughts?

      you have -6 for giveaways

and I think the ones you are getting count as either requests or library — not gifts because you aren’t getting them by surprise or out of the blue with no input from you.

      Anyone else?

We have swap sites listed as 5 points, I would think trading with a fellow blogger would count in that, wouldn’t it? Like an informal swap site? I know I’ve been avoiding an informal blogger-only swap site because I assumed any books there would cost me 5 points. You can definitely count the 3 you’re giving away as -6, but I’d be inclined to think you’d have to take 5 points for each of those and end up with 4 points at the end of the transaction. At the very least you’d take 3 points for each and end up even.

Blob is costing Dawn pairs of shoes but I’m realizing it’s costing me magazines. Since the beginning of BLOB, I’ve been buying magazines left and right. Oprah, Art Journaling, Poughshares, and more. The bad thing about it is that I DON’T read magazines! I might glance through them now and then, but I don’t usually buy them because I won’t read a whole magazine.

Today I went into Borders to buy a journal and came out with two journals and four magazine, blowing my budget. Thankfully I didn’t come out with any books though. The next time I see a magazine in a store, I’m going to run away! ;)

LOL!! That’s one way to avoid buying books but still get new reading material.

I know! I’m determined to spend this weekend reading everything I bought. We’ll see how far I get. Why is it that I’ve been online for just 3 minutes and enter and won a contest in that time? 6 more points to add to my score.

Thankfully I haven’t found anything to fill the void. I seem to be on a purging kick. I’m giving away clothes too.

Lucky! I’ve been purging clothes too! Right now my living room and kitchen both look a mess since I’m getting rid of silverware, dishes, and pots. If this keeps up by the end of BLOB all I will have are jeans, books, and magazines!

This morning when I opened my daily email from Goodreads, the first thing I spotted was Nicole’s review of One Amazing Thing by Chitra Divakaruni. I came so close to placing the book on hold at my library but fought the temptation. Besides I have enough books to read right now. I think I’ll just ignore my Goodreads newsletter for a while. ;)

OMG! I did almost the same thing — went right to Audible and saw that it is available in an unabridged edition. I resisted.

I went straight and check at my library to see if they have it after her review. They do, I’m keeping it in mind for March 1!

I know her review was amazing. Very very tempting

    BLOB Fail

I went to the library tonight to pick up books for the kids and found several of my holds waiting for me that I froze. *sigh* It doesn’t help that I ordered three books today including An Altar in the World by Barbara Brown Taylor. The good thing is that I don’t feel too guilty. I know the books I’ve bought or brought home are for more than entertainment purposes so. . .

How’s everyone else faring tonight with the game?

I’m starting to think I need an intervention. I found five more books to give away but have four in my online shopping cart. The good thing is that they’re not impulse buys.

No, no no!!!! Stay strong. Leave those books in your wish list. Do not hit buy.

I’m trying. One of the books I want – The Happiness Project – is what I’m currently reading. I like it so much I want my own copy. *sigh* I’ll give myself a few days then give in if I still want the books.

I was up this morning and found three more books to get rid of! I keep going through my collection looking for more. I’m feeling a lot better.

Way to go! Notice, however, that I haven’t listed any books for giving away yet. I need to get started on that.

You should! I suspect with your collection you may be the BLOB to that everyone needs to be. Have you started going through your stacks yet?

        • bethfishreads 12:39 am on February 7, 2010 Permalink

no I haven’t gone through stacks yet, but I will soon.

This game has really helped spur me in the reading process. There is so much stuff that I need to be honest about what I have been keeping over the years.

    • Vasilly 2:33 am on February 7, 2010 Permalink | Reply

I agree. It is helping to be honest about whether or not I’m going to read many of the books on my shelves. A lot of what I’m giving away, I bought from thrift stores because it was a “deal”. I really need to stop that.

      • jendevourerofbooks 8:33 pm on February 9, 2010 Permalink | Reply

A lot of what I got rid of was the same thing, stuff I got at borders as my 3rd ‘free’ book, etc.
